Don Lemon Explains How Matt Lauer Could Make a Comeback
Don Lemon is making a surprising declaration about former Today anchor Matt Lauer years after his infamous firing from NBC.
The former CNN anchor, 58, opened up about the possibility of Lauer's comeback during the Wednesday, Jan. 22, episode of the "Hollywood Raw Podcast With Dax Holt and Adam Glyn," telling listeners that a Lauer-led podcast could be his way back into the mainstream media.
“I think that if he could come back to digital, he can set his own course,” Lemon explained, adding, “But I only got to know Matt after, you know, the whole situation happened.”
Lauer, 67, was fired by NBC in 2017 after a female colleague made a detailed complaint in which she accused him of inappropriate sexual behavior at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. She also claimed that the alleged behavior continued in the workplace after, according to NBC News. Several more women came forward with more sexual misconduct allegations shortly after the disgraced anchor was fired.
Despite Lauer's termination and subsequent life out of the spotlight, Lemon—who was fired from CNN in 2023—claimed that people can't get enough of Lauer when they see him out and about.
“Women love him. They’re like, ‘Man, oh my God, can I get a picture? I love you. I miss you on television.’ Right?” he continued. “And so, I think the public loves him. The public misses him, but it’s just the… it’s the people inside the business who are afraid.”
He added, “Maybe in this whole Trump era when, you know, [being] canceled is over, I don't know. Maybe there is a way that he’ll come back, but I think it’s more of the people who are inside of the business who are concerned about what happened with Matt.”
