Caban credits the one and only Jennifer Lopez with launching her modeling career, as she worked for her since-shuttered Sweetface brand back in the aughts.
Caban reminisced on the moment in a throwback tweet posted in 2012, which featured an old newspaper clipping of herself modeling Sweetface. "My 1st job modeling was for @JLO***couldn't think of a better way to start my career. Thanks Jennifer! #throwback," she wrote.
In 2008, Caban competed in and won the first season of the reality competition series Model Latina, in which contestants participate in runway and fashion challenges to win a contract with Q Management, a $10,000 cash prize and photo spread in Latina magazine. She later returned to the show as a guest judge.
In addition to Model Latina, Caban made her acting debut in Gina Rodriguez’s Jane the Virgin, where she played Sonia, an employee at The Marbella hotel who befriends Jane across five episodes. In 2017, she tweeted, "Sonia #thankful thank you @CWJaneTheVirgin & @JennieUrman for this opportunity!!" alongside a photo of herself in costume in front of her trailer.
According to a Rolling Stone article from 2016, Caban also designed a swimwear line, J. Marie, though the brand’s Instagram page has been inactive as of 2020.

Per previous reporting, Caban and Mars first met at a New York City hotel restaurant on the Lower East Side and have known each other since before his first album dropped in 2010. She eventually moved from her hometown of Harlem to Los Angeles to be near the singer-songwriter. Mars first confirmed the relationship publicly in a 2013 Rolling Stone article, with the publication noting that he discussed the matter with “extreme reluctance.”

In the 2016 RS profile, Mars was asked if he was going to tie the knot with Caban, to which the musician replied, laughing: “Jesus! She’s my best friend. My rock. What’s wrong with that? We’re just happy.” He paused, adding, “Until she reads this.”
Though the two have rarely been seen out together in public, they’ve hit the Grammy Awards on three occasions, in 2014, 2016 and 2018; at the latter ceremony, Mars took home six accolades.
