David Beckham Shares Sweet Hopes for Daughter Harper's 'Exciting' Future: 'Girls Need More Than Words'

David Beckham is looking forward to a better future for his daughter.
The former soccer star, 49, shared his hopes for his 13-year-old daughter Harper to have “the same opportunities" as her three older brothers in a speech at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, on Monday, Jan. 20.
"I want my daughter Harper to have the same opportunities as her brothers and that should be the case for all girls everywhere," David said while being recognized as a cultural leader at the ceremony, per U.K. outlet Sky News.
David — who shares Harper and sons Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 22, and Cruz, 19, with his wife Victoria Beckham — addressed issues girls face in society as he spoke about his hopes for his daughter's future.
“Today, there are more children in need and at risk than at any time in recent history and it is always the most vulnerable children who face the biggest challenges — especially girls,” he continued, per Sky News.
"I’m lucky enough to be a father of three boys and one beautiful girl. I want Harper to grow up in a world where being a girl doesn’t determine what you can do, where you can go, or who you can become.”
David stated in his speech that "girls need more than words,” calling for more “opportunities, collective action, and investment.”
"What an exciting prospect if we can unlock their potential and support their development,” he added, per the outlet.
David was presented with the Crystal Award for his cultural impact and humanitarianism at Monday's ceremony. After the event, the former soccer player, who has been a UNICEF goodwill ambassador since 2005, shared his hopes of being “the voice of children” at the World Economic Forum, Sky News reported.

David's shout-out to Harper at the ceremony comes after the pair were seen earlier this month attending an NBA game together in Miami on Jan. 2.
At the time, David shared a photo on Instagram of himself and Harper posing courtside together while joined by British rapper Central Cee, writing, "Fun night at the Heat last night, I'm not sure if Harper was more excited to see Jimmy @jimmybutler or Central Cee @centralcee."
