Controversial MKR contestant's surprising past exposed: 'Ruins everything'
My Kitchen Rules fans have spotted Lawrence Murphy on another popular Australian series.
He’s caused quite a stir on this year’s season of My Kitchen Rules alongside his girlfriend Hannah Campbell, but viewers were surprised to see Lawrence Murphy pop up on another TV show this week. The controversial reality star, who fans recently discovered is an actor who graduated with a Bachelor of Performing Arts from WAAPA, has been spotted in the newly released second season of the popular BINGE series The Twelve.
Lawrence has an uncredited role as a news reporter in one episode of the drama, and notably isn’t the only person in the cast with a reality TV stint up their belt. Sharon Johal, who competed on The Block in 2022 alongside her husband Ankur Dogra, plays Parvinder Sangar and appears in eight episodes.

One eagle-eyed MKR fan spotted Lawrence on The Twelve this week and shared a photo in a popular Facebook group alongside the caption: “Look who I spotted on the Aussie drama The Twelve, season 2!”
'Ruins everything'
The post quickly racked up hundreds of comments from fans who questioned whether this meant Lawrence was also a “paid actor” on MKR.
“WTF are they paid actors?” one person wrote, while another added, “Opens up the possibility of them all being paid actors”.
“Omg, he’s been acting on MKR the whole time,” a third theorised, followed by someone else who said, “Oh what a shame! Ruins everything”.
“Makes sense now. He's acting all his hate scenes toward mum and daughter. No wonder to bring up ratings,” a different user speculated.
Others argued it wasn’t a “big deal” that Lawrence is an actor, with one fan writing: “So what! Everyone has to work. It’s his job.”
“Does it alter his ability to cook a meal? Who cares what he did for a living? This is about cooking and he isn't showing promise in that field,” another remarked, while someone else replied, “I can understand Lawrence wanting to raise his profile and get more acting work”.
“Who cares? Every person around that table has a job I'm sure,” another user shared. “He just happens to be a small-time actor and has been for a while. He has probably been in many ads and shows as a background fill in but no one noticed until now.”
Lawrence's acting resumé
In addition to his role on The Twelve, Lawrence has appeared in the war film Before Dawn alongside former Home and Away actor Stephen Peacocke, the Channel Seven Logie-nominated miniseries The Claremont Murders, and multiple TV advertisements.
The Switzerland-born star also co-founded his own production company Lazy Films and recently directed, wrote and starred in the horror film Lies Within Us, which is currently in pre-production.

Meanwhile, his partner Hannah has also previously appeared on TV. She competed on Big Brother in 2020, which was the first season of the reality show to air on the Seven Network, and finished in tenth place.
“I thought if I can do Big Brother, being locked in a house with randoms, I could do MKR,” she told TV WEEK. “But let me tell you, MKR was 1000 times harder. I would do Big Brother every single year if I could. MKR, I don’t think I’d go back and do that!”
