Colman Domingo addressed rumors that he was in consideration to replace embattled actor Jonathan Majors as the antagonist introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, revealing on the latest episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast that the persistent nature of the chatter even led to a meeting with Marvel executives.

“When it was constantly in the press and on places like Twitter, I was like, ‘Wait a minute. Is this true? Am I being talked about for Kang?'” recalled Domingo. “I literally called up my team and said, ‘Are you guys having conversations that I have no idea about?’ And they said no. ‘Are you guys being cagey or what?’ They weren’t.”

Domingo then divulged that "there had been conversations of me coming into Marvel in some way," so he and his team did "follow up with a sit-down meeting with the heads of Marvel. I did do that."
"We talked openly about the landscape of Marvel and the Kang rumors," said Domingo, adding, "I am all about energy. I want to do things that make sense and bring gentle energy. I want a role to be mine, whatever I develop. Something didn’t feel right to me about replacing someone. I want to build something from the ground up that is my own.”
Replacing Majors "was never a conversation from my point of view," said Domingo. "If I was discussed, I still don't know if I was discussed." Teasing the potential of a live-action Marvel debut, Domingo — who lends his voice to the animated Marvel series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man — added, "I want to build something from the ground up, so there still are talks.”

Colman DomingoMajors made his debut as Kang alongside Paul Rudd's titular superhero in 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but was dropped by Marvel after he was convicted of the assault and harassment of his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, that same year. He was given probation and ordered to attend a domestic violence intervention program.
Majors had been slated to reprise Kang in a number of upcoming Marvel projects. Rumors of Domingo replacing Majors swirled until Marvel opted to rework the first of several planned movies to feature Kang, titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, to Avengers: Doomsday. The bombshell came during last year's San Diego Comic-Con, where Marvel announced that Robert Downey Jr. would return to the MCU not as Iron Man but as Doctor Doom and make his debut in Avengers: Doomsday.
As for the Colman Cinematic Universe, Domingo recently starred in the Academy Award-nominated Sing Sing, a role that has earned him his second Oscar nomination at next month's ceremony. He also headlined the Netflix miniseries The Madness.
