Yahoo Lifestyle Colin Farrell Shouted Out The Craft Service Crew On “The Penguin” By Name In His Golden Globes Acceptance Speech, And People Are Obsessed
In case you missed it, the Golden Globes took place last night, and some of the biggest names in Hollywood were in attendance at the lavish Los Angeles ceremony.
As usual, there were plenty of great award show moments that ended up going viral on social media; from host Nikki Glaser’s widely-praised opening monologue, to Zendaya sparking a frenzy by wearing what appears to be an engagement ring on that finger.
Some standout acceptance speeches also sparked a reaction from viewers at home. For example, people were left emotional as Demi Moore won her first-ever major award for acting after a staggering 45 years in the industry.
On the other hand, Kieran Culkin was his usual chaotic self as he admitted to forgetting his planned speech after doing a tequila shot with Mario Lopez before being called on stage.
And now, a more understated acceptance speech moment is going viral on X, with social media users admitting to being impressed by Colin Farrell’s unconventional shoutout as he collected the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television.
Colin won the hotly-anticipated category for his performance in The Penguin, a TV series that saw the Irish actor reprise his role of Oz Cobb, aka “The Penguin,” from the 2022 movie The Batman.
The series follows Oz’s transformation into an evil villain and his subsequent rise to power.
When he first got up on stage to accept the award on Sunday night, Colin quipped: “No one to thank on this one; I did it all by myself.”
He then admitted: “Too many people to thank; you all know it takes a village whether it’s on the small screen or big screen,” before reeling off a whole list of people from The Penguin’s cast and crew — including his makeup artist, the show’s writers, and his costars.
Colin went on to personally shout out the other actors nominated in his category, which included Andrew Scott, and Baby Reindeer’s Richard Gadd.
“Thanks everyone,” he then said as he attempted to conclude his speech before suddenly remembering: “Oh! Golden Globes, thanks as well. Whoever else I forgot, I do apologize — you know what you mean to me.”
However, just as Colin appeared to be done speaking, he remembered another very important person who he wanted to publicly thank.
“Oh!” he exclaimed. “Craft service, our great dame!”
As the crowd of A-listers laughed at this shoutout to the department that provides cast and crew with food and drink throughout shoots, Colin made it clear just how sincere he was being.
“No, no, Carolina, on those cold winter nights in New York when I was the only one overheating,” Colin went on. “She’d be there with a coconut water every half hour. Carolina, god bless you — she kept the whole crew going; she’s craft service.”
At this point, Colin did wrap up his speech and left the stage, but people watching at home were struck by the poignancy of him name-checking somebody who worked on craft service while accepting such a major award.
One popular tweet reads: “Colin Farrell thanking Carolina in crafts services and her thoughtfulness in his #GoldenGlobes acceptance speech is your wholesome moment of the evening.”
“Obsessed with Colin Farrell thanking Carolina in craft services,” another viral tweet adds, while one user wrote: “Colin Farrall thanking craft service with such sincerity!!!! 😓”
“I don’t think I’ve heard an actor thank craft services in a speech EVER what a man,” somebody else tweeted. Another speculated: “Carolina is somewhere absolutely floating tonight.”
“Colin Farrell thanking the craft services woman by name is adorable,” one more tweet reads. Another echoes: “Brilliant by Colin Farrell to thank, by name, the lady from craft service in a totally genuine way.”
While somebody else concluded: “remember when Colin Farrell was a Hollywood bad boy and now he’s beloved and going out of his way to thank craft service people.”
