It’s a well-known fact that grocery store brand mud cakes are an absolute game changer when it comes to catering a birthday party. While some people enjoy serving the dessert as is, others like to flex their creative muscles and transform the sweet treat into a bakery-worthy masterpiece.

One Coles shopper has done just that, sharing a post on social media this week showing how they managed to create a Bluey-themed birthday cake for their four-year-old granddaughter that’s adorable, delicious and - most importantly - cheap.

The woman stacked two $6.40 Coles chocolate mud cakes together and created a custard-type filling in the centre using $1.80 Cottee’s Instant Vanilla Pudding mix. She then decorated it with pink homemade icing, sprinkles and various Bluey toys.

“Cake Brief: A pink Bluey cake... Two chocolate mud cakes with pink ‘instant pudding’ filling, pink buttercream and chocolate drip. A very happy 4-year-old granddaughter,” she captioned a photo of the finished product.

The woman explained that the secret to making the pudding mix was using only half of the required liquid so it has a firmer texture and won’t squish out the sides.

After sharing the photo in a popular Facebook group, fans took to the comments to applaud her “fabulous” creation.

“Absolutely pawesome done a great job. Very impressive,” one person wrote.

“Omgosh soo cute,” another added, while a third said, “Amazing well done”.

“Absolutely gorgeous,” someone else replied.

Plenty of other people shared their own mud cake “hacks” in the group, either covering the dessert in homemade buttercream or fondant to make it look more expensive than it is.

Meanwhile, some shoppers said they’re big fans of mix-matching cakes by stacking a caramel cake with chocolate and white chocolate to create a tall dessert.

Regardless of what it looks like, you can guarantee it will taste delicious!
