Coles shopper wows with 'amazing' KFC $6.40 mud cake hack: 'So good'
Social media users admitted they thought the 'chicken' was real.
A Coles shopper has been applauded on social media after they shared photos of the impressive KFC-themed birthday cake they created with just a handful of products from the supermarket. While custom desserts typically cost upwards of $100 from a bakery, this cake was made using a popular $6.40 item.
The woman stacked two Coles Bakery Mud Cakes, iced them with vanilla frosting and used strips of red fondant around the side to recreate the design of a KFC bucket.
“What 18-year-old doesn’t like KFC?” she captioned the post in a popular Facebook group.

After receiving plenty of questions in the comments, the woman explained that the ‘chicken tenders’ were also made from mud cake.
“Just squished into ‘chicken’ shapes, dipped in Caramilk and coated with Crunchy Nut Corn Flakes,” she detailed.
'This isn't right'
Social media users took to the comments to praise the finished product, which featured a real KFC bucket filled with ‘chicken’ on top.
“Fabulous 😂 I’d be disappointed it’s not chicken! It looks great,” one person wrote, to which the woman replied, “There were a few that were disappointed 😂”.
“Omg you just gave me a great idea for my son's bday!” another added, followed by a third who said, “That's awesome well done”.
“This isn’t right… I’m a vegetarian but that chicken looks good to me 😂” someone else remarked.
“So amazing love it,” a different user remarked, while others said it was “so good”.

The creation comes shortly after another Coles shopper wowed social media users with their Bluey-themed birthday cake for their four-year-old granddaughter. The woman stacked two $6.40 Coles chocolate mud cakes together and created a custard-type filling in the centre using $1.80 Cottee’s Instant Vanilla Pudding mix. She then decorated it with pink homemade icing, sprinkles and various Bluey toys.
She explained that the secret to making the pudding mix was using only half of the required liquid so it has a firmer texture and won’t squish out the sides.
