Coles giving away Christmas essential to millions of Aussies: 'Free'
Coles is giving away free carrots to families to leave out for Rudolph and his mates.
I must admit that I was never much of a "Christmas person" growing up. Having significantly older siblings and an inability to suspend my disbelief, even from a young age, meant that I never really believed in Santa or cared much for the festive season.
Flash forward to 2024, and, as the mum of a two-and-a-half-year-old, I am all about the magic of Christmas. From Santa pics on the beach that are then turned into a holiday card to a real tree to a Bluey advent calendar I caved and bought for my son, I have shaken off my formerly Grinchy ways and dived headfirst into all things festive.
And, with my child being old enough to grasp the concept of the yuletide and Santa this year, you had better believe I will be leaving out cookies and milk for the big guy and carrots for his faithful (and hopefully humanely treated) reindeer.
Coles free deal for millions
If you are in the same boat (or sleigh, as it were) then you'll want to head to Coles between today and Christmas Eve as the grocery chain is giving away free carrots to families to leave out for Rudolph and his mates. Did someone say cah-UTE!

Customers can collect a free Reindeer Carrot from the special collection point as they leave their local Coles store, making it easier to put the finishing touches on their festive efforts.
The supply of Reindeer Carrots is made possible thanks to the generous contribution of five growers from across the country, who have donated 55 tonnes of carrots for the special Christmas program, which will surely delight kids all over the country.
Aussie parents keeping the Christmas magic alive
The move comes after a recent survey of Coles customers revealed that more than three-quarters of households with young kids leave snacks out for Santa and his reindeer, with cookies and carrots topping the list
Of course, as any parent or caregiver knows, in order to really drive home the magic, it's up to them to ensure the stunt is as realistic as possible.
This means taking a few bites of the carrots and cookies to make it look legit, as parodied in several viral videos like these ones:
"Why just not chop them up into small pieces 😂," one person suggested on the video.
"Last year I ate half of them and gave the rest to my dog and rabbits," another said.
Sweet and sustainable
“Free reindeer carrots are a fantastic way to reduce food waste while spreading holiday cheer," Coles General Manager of Commercial Produce, Charlotte Gilbert said. "By giving these perfectly edible carrots a purpose, we’re not only ensuring Santa’s reindeer have a treat while on their big journey but also supporting our commitment to sustainability."
