Chris Pine's Story About How His Dog Inspired His Latest Career Move Is Too Sweet
Chris Pine, best known for his incredible acting career, is now adding "children's book author" to his resume. The 44-year-old star, and son of CHiPs actor Robert Pine and actress-turned-psychotherapist Gwynne Gilford, is set to release his debut children's book, When Digz the Dog Met Zurl the Squirrel, on October 8.
Pine sat down with Parade and explained how his new book is inspired by his two rescue dogs.
The book description reads, "Digz the Dog is certain that he is the king of Ms. Pincher's garden. There's just one problem . . . Zurl the Squirrel is positive that she is the queen of Ms. Pincher's Garden. As a dog and a squirrel, the two are natural enemies. But there's more to Digz and Zurl than meets the eye. Digz was once a lonely dog left at the pound. And Zurl has her fair share of insecurities too. When the two come face-to-face in a showdown, they realize. . . they might not be so different."
Chris was quoted in the Parade article as saying, "This all started at the beginning of quarantine when we were all cooped up and I wasn't doing much of anything except for hanging out at the house with my dogs and taking them on walks. I was on a walk with my good friend way out deep out in Altadena [California]. My dog ran after a squirrel, and she said, “Wouldn't that be a great idea for a story about a dog that falls in love with a squirrel?” That was the very basic beginning of that journey. I went home and immediately started writing. And then I couldn't stop and ended up writing, I don't know, probably seven or eight stories."
