Check Out the First Look of Jay Leno's Guest Star Cameo on 'Shifting Gears' With Tim Allen

In addition to both being stand-up comics, another thing that Tim Allen and Jay Leno have in common is a love of cars. So, that made it a natural idea for Leno to guest star on Allen’s new ABC comedy Shifting Gears.

Natural, because Shifting Gears is the story of Allen’s character Matt, the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. So, on the ninth episode of the comedy, airing March 12, Leno plays himself, and he brings his car into Parker Customs for repair.

In real life, Leno has an extensive car collection, consisting of more than 181 cars and 160 motorcycles, which he keeps housed in a special hanger for that purpose at the Burbank Airport.

Allen, on the other hand, keeps his cars stored in a former paint shop in the San Fernando Valley. His collection consists mostly of Fords and Chevrolets. But Allen also has been known to participate in a number of races, including endurance racing and the 24 Hours at Daytona.

Also on the "Gummies" episode of Shifting Gears, Matt's daughter Riley (Kat Dennings) is horrified when she finds weed gummies in her son Carter’s (Maxwell Simpkins) pocket, prompting surprising advice from Matt. Meanwhile, Eve (Jenna Elfman) inadvertently lands Gabriel (Seann William Scott) and Stitch (Daryl “Chill” Mitchell) in hot water after asking them to donate to a charity auction.

Shifting Gears airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Streams next day on Hulu.
