Chappell Roan Tells Red Carpet Photographer To 'Shut The F**k Up'

As singer-songwriter Chappell Roan walked the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet Wednesday evening, she told a photographer to “shut the f**k up.”

While Roan was getting her dress adjusted by a handler, a photographer can be heard telling someone near him to “shut the fuck up,” according to a video of the chaotic interaction. Roan quickly turned around and pointed at the person off camera, seemingly someone trying to take her picture, and said, “You shut the fuck up.” The crowd cheered as Roan continued, “No. Not me, bitch,” while pointing toward the line of photographers at the entrance to the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Roan seemingly acknowledged the incident in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying that the VMAs red carpet was overwhelming with the photographers yelling at her to hit a certain pose, leading her to yell back.

“You don’t get to yell at me like that,” she said.

Roan, who is nominated for Best New Artist, Performance of the Year for “Red Wine Supernova,” Best Trending Video for “HOT TO GO!” and Song of Summer for “Good Luck, Babe,” wore a medieval look on the red carpet while men in armor stood next to her. Wednesday night’s VMAs are Roan’s first and she’s also set to perform. She received backlash after it was revealed she seemingly canceled two of her European shows to attend and perform at the VMAs.

MTV did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
