Bruce Springsteen Reviews Early Look at ‘The Bear’ Star in Biopic
Bruce Springsteen revealed what he really thinks of The Bear star Jeremy Allen White’s depiction of him in the upcoming Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere.
In an interview on Sirius XM’s Street Radio podcast, Springsteen said he visited the set and got a firsthand look at White in character—and the “Born To Run” singer was impressed. “He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize and he’s just done a great job,” Springsteen said, praising White, who also does his own singing in the film. “He sings very well,” he added.
White rose to fame in the starring role of Hulu’s Emmy-winning chef drama The Bear, which is three seasons in. The show has racked up a slew of other awards as well, with each awards season prompting special attention to White’s performance as Carmy Berzatto. Springsteen said White brings that same talent to playing him in the biopic, which is “fun” to see.
Springsteen also said in the interview that even though it was “a little” weird to see someone play him at first, “you get over that pretty quickly” since “Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it.”
Springsteen also heaped praise on other members of the cast, like Succession’s Jeremy Strong, who is playing the rocker’s longtime manager Jon Landau. “They cast the film beautifully so, it’s very exciting,” he said, “I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”
The film does not yet have a release date, but 20th Century Studios is planning a theatrical release some time this year.
