Bindi Irwin bids farewell to 'beautiful family member': 'Heartbreaking'

Bindi Irwin has taken to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute as she bids farewell to a "beautiful family member".

In a series of snaps of herself and her family, Bindi shared the loss of their 38-year-old echidna.

"Saying goodbye to our beautiful family member of 38 years," she wrote. "The sweetest, kindest, most wonderful echidna you ever did meet. Rest In Peace, angel."

Bindi shared snaps of herself, her mum Terri and brother Robert with the echidna as well as older photos of herself with husband Chandler Powell with the animal. She also shared a sweet photo of herself and daughter Grace Warrior with the echidna.

"Awww. I bet she's hanging out with your dad swapping stories," one fan commented.

"Oh my heart, one lucky little one to be loved so true! Sending hugs!" actress Emmy Perry wrote.

"I am so extremely sorry for your loss. Heartbreaking," another follower wrote.

"So, so sad. Rest in Peace❤️ Hope you're all doing okay," a third added.

"38 years! Incredible! So sorry," someone else said.

"Oh I'm sorry you had to say good bye but what a wonderful life and beautiful memories!" one person added.

"Rip angel and she had the best 38yrs of life, so glad to have seen her at the zoo," a fan shared. "So sorry for your loss and to the zoo family."

Others shared their surprise that echidnas could live such long lives.

Bindi shares 'beautiful' video of Grace Warrior and 'Grandpa Crocodile'

Earlier this week, Bindi shared a sweet video of Grace seeing a construction sign featuring Steve.

"We have a little construction going on to make our Tasmanian devil habitat @australiazoo even more beautiful," Bindi shared. "Grace’s favourite part? Visiting Grandpa Crocodile. All the love."

In the video, Grace excitedly waves at the photo of Steve with Bindi telling her, "Grandpa Crocodile loves you too!"

Fans loved the video with one user commenting, "Oh my goodness Bindi this is beyond special! Grace Warrior's connection and love for your dad is so evident!
