'My Big Fat Fabulous Life’s Whitney Thore Shares Devastating Family Loss

My Big Fat Fabulous Life star Whitney Thore recently shared a heartbreaking update, announcing the death of her 17-year-old cat, Henchi.

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, Thore, 40, took to Instagram with the sad news, writing, "RIP sweet Henchimayne. 10.01.2007—01.21.2025."

"I came home today after three weeks away and spent just a few hours with my sweetest boy when he suddenly became ill," the TLC star explained. "He died in my arms an hour ago."

"He was the most faithful companion to me for the last 17 years and every day I was so overcome with love and affection for him as if it were the first day I ever knew him," Thore continued. "From the day I got him from a little pet shop in Korea he has brought me nothing but so much joy. I love you, Henchi."

In the comments, Thore's friends and followers shared their shock and condolences. Her longtime pal, Buddy Bell, wrote, "Noooo! Damn dude I’m so so sorry ❤️."

Another Instagram user shared, "Oh noooo not sweet Henchi. He definitely waited for you so that he could be with you when he crossed. 💔😭🌈."

Someone else echoed, "Sweet boy. He waited for you. 😭 I’m so sorry for your loss."

"Your mama was waiting for him with open arms 🥰," yet another follower wrote, referring to Thore's mother, Barbara "Babs" Thore, who died in 2022.

Meanwhile, yet another Instagram fan shared, "So sorry to hear this. This is a lot. You are going through so much loss. But we are sending you all our love as ever and we miss you can't wait for you to come back ❤️."

Earlier in January, Thore shared another personal loss after her close friend Jessica Powell's father, Will Powell, died.
