Beyond the Gates Video: Golf Club-Wielding Dani Is New CBS Soap’s ‘Loose Cannon,’ Warns Karla Mosley

Beyond the Gates‘ Dani Dupree is “the friend you want to have, but the enemy you do not want to have!” asserts Karla Mosley, one of the stars of CBS’ upcoming new daytime soap opera.

Premiering Monday, Feb. 24 at 2 pm ET, the first new daytime soap in 25 years takes place in a Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States. At the center of a posh gated community are the Duprees, “a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty,” the official synopsis tells us. “But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered.”

Tamara Tunie (As the World Turns, Law & Order: SVU) stars as Anita Dupree, the family matriarch who worked hard for her success, while raising two daughters with her now-retired senator husband Vernon (Madam Secretary‘s Clifton Davis).

Mosley’s Dani Dupree is one of Anita’s daughters, while Daphnee Duplaix (One Life to Live) plays the other, Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson.

As evidenced by the soap’s first trailer, which TVLine debuted for you exclusively and features Dani wildly sweeping clear a desk with golf club, “She is a loose cannon!” Mosley told TVLine’s Kimberly Roots Wednesday during Atlanta’s SCAD TVfest. “She is a contained cannon, she is all the cannons! If there’s a cannon, Dani’s it.”

What has this cannon all fired up when the sudser debuts later this month? Mosley answers that with a question: “What would you do if your love of 30 years told you he was going to marry your daughter’s best friend? Is she justified? You decide. [But] the answer is yes.”

Mosley, an alum of both CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful and Guiding Light, goes on to share the cast’s “surprise” at having Real Housewives of Potomac‘s Karen Huger appear in the pilot episode (and trailer), saying, “She was so lovely, so excited to be there…. It felt like it legitimized what we were doing because she is the world we are inhabiting.”
