Beyoncé’s Mom Admits She Ignored Jay-Z’s Advice
Beyoncé‘s mom Tina Knowles spoke about her embarrassing social media mishaps after liking a post about Jay-Z’s rape lawsuit.
In early December, Knowles, 70, liked an Instagram post reporting about son-in-law Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter’s rape lawsuit. The headline read: “Jay-Z, Diddy Named In Lawsuit Alleging Rape of Girl, 13.”
She later said that she was hacked, posting an Instagram post that said, “As you all know, I do not play about my family. So if you see something uncharacteristic of me. Just know that it is not me!”
But when Knowles guested on Tuesday’s episode of The Run-Through With Vogue podcast she joked about her habit of liking negative things about her own children before.
“If I’m busy and I’m going through the thing, I’m like, ‘Oh, there’s Beyoncé with so and so.’ I like that. And then the fans come back and say: ‘Miss Tina, please erase that because you’re liking some negative post,’” she said.
Knowles did not talk about the lawsuit against Carter during the podcast episode, but she did go on to say that Jay-Z himself gave her advice after she admitted she’s “always screwing up” with social media.
“Jay will say, ‘Listen, if you’re gonna read somebody, at least spell your words right. Don’t misspell your words, Ma. You can’t do that. Take your time and go over and spellcheck your stuff!’” Knowles said.
“I don’t have time for that,” she admitted.
And it’s not just Jay-Z who gets on her case, it’s also her 12-year-old granddaughter Blue Ivy. “Every once in a while, I’ll get a call from Blue, and she’ll say, ‘Grandma, that’s really whack what you just did. That’s really whack. You should delete that,’” Knowles added. “I’m like, ‘Girl, I’m on to the next thing.’ And all of the comments are like, ‘There you go again, Miss Tina,’”
Carter was accused of raping an 13-year-old girl alongside Combs during a 2000 VMAs afterparty, and has denied the allegations.
Through a lawyer, he told the Daily Beast in a statement: “True Justice is coming. We fight FROM victory, not FOR victory. This was over before it began.”
