With Daniel Craig's latest movie Queer generating buzz this award show season, it's easy to say all eyes are on the former James Bond star. He is up for a Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama award at the 2025 Golden Globes, and his performance in the film certainly has people wanting to know more about his life away from the cameras.
While the 56-year-old has proven over the span of his career that he can do almost anything in the spotlight, he tends to keep his personal life more private when it comes to his wife, fellow actress Rachel Weisz, and their blended family. That said, there's no doubt that she'll be supporting Daniel at the January 5, 2025 ceremony, where he could potentially win his first Golden Globe award amid three nominations over the years (he's also been nominated for Knives Out in 2020 and Glass Onion: a Knives Out Mystery in 2023).
So, how did the bright blue-eyed star meet his wife of almost 14 years? It all started in London back in 1994.
According to People, the two actors first crossed paths 15 years before they started dating. They were both cast in Les Grandes Horizontales at the National Theatre Studio in 1994. During this period, Daniel was divorcing actress Fiona Loudon with whom he shares a daughter, Ella.
Rachel, who was single at the time, went on to meet her first husband, director Darren Aronofsky, who she wed in 2005, and gave birth to their son Henry, a year later. They later divorced in 2010 and a few months later, Rachel and Daniel worked together again.
After the duo was cast in the psychological thriller Dream House, they started dating in private. The couple wed less than a year later in June 2011 in a secret ceremony after having been together for six months. The only people at the wedding were the actors and their children, per People.
Although Daniel and Rachel have made more public appearances since their nuptials, they still keep their marriage under wraps. In a 2012 interview with British GQ, Daniel gave a brief, rare bit of insight into the relationship. "I'm in love. I'm very happy," he told the magazine at the time. "Life is long and I am hopefully in this for the long run."
Rachel has echoed similar heartfelt words, but she also opened up about why he's not often the topic of conversation.
"He's just too famous. It would be a betrayal. You have to protect your marriage," she told MORE magazine (per E! News) in November 2015. "When you're young, you tell your girlfriends everything. One of the great pleasures of not being an adolescent is that you don't have to share everything. When you're married, that door closes. The audience goes, and you're in your own life."
Fast forward to September 2018, when the James Bond star and The Favourite actress welcomed a daughter named Grace. Although neither of the two have social media and don't share glimpses of their family online, Rachel revealed that they were excited about the milestone.
“Daniel and I are so happy. We’re going to have a little human," she told The New York Times in April 2018 before giving birth. "We can’t wait to meet him or her. It’s all such a mystery.”
Daniel is cognizant of the fact he has a young child at home and how that affects his work. As he explained to the New York Times in November 2024, spending time with Grace is definitely part of the equation when it comes to him taking on new acting projects.
"I've got a 6-year-old at home," he told the outlet at the time. "I don't want to be away from home as much as I have in the past."
While Rachel and Daniel aren't always ones to hit the red carpet together, we're sure she's proud of his latest work. As she mentioned in a 2018 Good Morning America interview:
"We talk about films that we love or plays. We love to go to see theater and discuss things that we've seen," she told the outlet. "We respect each other. We appreciate each other's work."
