Beatrice's 'two fingers up' to Harry and Meghan with baby news

A royal expert has claimed the timing of Princess Beatrice's pregnancy announcement was "no mistake", as the news was shared on the same day as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's third wedding anniversary.

The Duchess of York is expecting her first child with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, after the couple tied the knot in a small wedding ceremony in July 2020 at Windsor Castle.

Some have seen the timing of the news, which was shared by the palace on social media, as a subtle dig at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who themselves have previously been seen to be overshadowing Beatrice’s younger sister Eugenie with their own news on two occasions.

"The fact it was Buckingham Palace that made the announcement proves this was not a simple oversight," royal author Duncan Larcombe told Fabulous magazine.

He suggested that move could be seen as a "two fingers up at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex", and it also indicated that Meghan and Harry are no longer a factor when it comes to royal proceedings.

"A great deal of care is taken over the timings of major announcements such as royal pregnancies and it is extremely unlikely diary staff were unaware of the significant day for Harry and Meghan," he added.

"You have a relatively large window of opportunity to announce a pregnancy, an anniversary date is set in stone."

Harry and Meghan's decision to tell the family that Meghan was pregnant on the say day as Princess Eugenie's wedding to Jack Brooksbank in October 2018 reportedly sparked a 'royal row'.

The decision "did not go down particularly well with Eugenie", royal authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand said about the incident.

Eugenie's mother Sarah - Fergie - Ferguson seemed to also have some thoughts. When Kensington Palace announced that Meghan and Harry were expecting a child, she chose to post a series of tweets congratulating her daughter and Jack on their wedding day.

The royal family revealed the exciting news baby news on their social media account on Wednesday writing: "Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year."

The Queen is reportedly 'delighted' by the happy news, after suffering another unexpected loss this week.

Edoardo is already a dad to four-year-old Wolfie from his relationship with former fiancee, Dara Huang.

The baby will be the Queen's 12th great-grandchild following the arrival of the Sussexes' second child in the year.
