Bachelor’s Alex Nation opens up about her abortion and removing the stigma

Former Bachelor star Alex Nation has opened up about previously having an abortion, and shared her hopes to remove the stigma around the topic.

The 30-year-old, who recently gave birth to her second child, told her story during an Instagram Q&A on Monday night.

“Yes, I have had an abortion,” she replied to a fan who had asked.

“I think it is incredibly important that we change how we talk about abortion. The topic typically lives in the shadows which only creates misinformation and stigma.”

Fellow Bachelor alum and It’s A Lot podcast host Abbie Chatfield has also previously spoken out about the importance of removing the stigma surrounding terminations.

In a candid discussion on the Shameless podcast in 2019, Abbie revealed that she had an abortion shortly before her season began filming, and she’d cry every time she was asked about babies by the producers or other contestants.

“I'm so sick of having to justify [to these women] why I haven't been screaming from the rooftops, ‘I want kids’,” she said. “At the time, I felt guilty for saying I wanted kids because I aborted one in March last year.

“A lot of women have abortions and, whether or not you know they have abortions, it's OK. I just don't want people to be shamed for that or feel internal shame.

“Maybe someone who's kind of in the public eye saying they've had an abortion and that it's OK will help them.”

After welcoming their first child together in August, a son named Maxwell Keegan Jory, Alex also revealed during her fan Q&A that she and her fiancée Carson Jory plan on having another baby.

The pair first took their relationship public back in November and announced their engagement online last month.

“Morning coffee forever with you,” she captioned a photo gallery showcasing her ring.

Alex, who won Richie Strahan’s season of The Bachelor in 2016 and went on to star in the second season of Bachelor In Paradise, also shares a 10-year-old son, Elijah, with her ex-husband.
