Australian Radio Awards: Stars narrowly avoid 'embarrassing' red carpet disaster

The night almost ended in disaster for many of the stars in attendance.

The annual Australian Commercial Radio & Audio awards almost ended in disaster for many of the stars attending in Sydney on Saturday night after one unfortunate incident.

As the likes of Jackie O Henderson, Amanda Keller and Kate Ritchie exited the bash at the International Convention Centre to walk to the nearby afterparty, one attendee's wardrobe malfunction caused complete chaos.

In pictures obtained by Yahoo Lifestyle, one unknown guest's gown is seen getting caught at the bottom of the escalator that took guests down from the red carpet – resulting in other revellers starting to trip over her as the escalator continued moving forward.

“People were stumbling over her, with no one able to get off until someone quickly slammed the emergency stop. Even then, it was chaos, and people were falling. The woman was so embarrassed,” an onlooker tells us.

Thankfully, it appeared nobody was injured during the unfortunate incident.

During the awards ceremony, WSFM's Amanda Keller and Brendan Jones took home the biggest award of the night, Best On-Air Team. This is the fourth time the breakfast duo have won the award.

Meanwhile, The Kyle & Jackie O Show won Best Networked Program with the Kyle and Jackie O Hour of Power. Kyle Sandilands, who didn't attend the show, also won the inaugural Individual Talent of the Year Award, beating out his on-air partner Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, Christian O’Connell, Jase Hawkins, Ray Hadley, Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and ‘Ugly’ Phil O’Neill.

Abbie Chatfield won the first Podcast Host of the Year Award for It's A Lot, however, she was not in attendance and accepted the award via video.
