Christmas is not long over, and thousands of Aussies are still sporting festive decorations in their front yards, and many even still have their tree up. If you're like me, you might also be breathing a sigh of relief that the madness of the holiday season is over and enjoying settling back into a routine of work, reasonable bedtimes and not eating every meal with a side of leftover ham.

With the yuletide a whole week or two behind us, it seems some retailers just can't wait to taunt us with the threat of the next big holiday break: Easter. Aldi shoppers recently expressed their exasperation with the budget chain after it began advertising hot cross buns on it's official Facebook page.

"Our Bakers Life Fruit Hot Cross Buns 6pk/450g have hopped into store to brighten your day with each mouthful. Enjoy toasted or fresh from the bag. Available in store now," the post promoting the $3.99 treats reads.

"Yummy but I’ll wait until Easter thanks. That’s when it’s a special treat," one bemused customer replied.

"Too soon!" another shopper said.

"They were in our Aldi before Christmas! Not impressed," a third added.

"What the??? it’s only January and we just finished Christmas and New Year seriously Hot Cross Buns?!," was another comment.

"Aldi. So soon after Christmas? Still finishing off my ham," someone else chimed in.

"Oh come on Commercialism, we just ended Christmas, Easter is a few months away, is profits the only solution to religious beliefs now, this is insanity...," another scathing remark read.

Several other people pointed out that the buns are actually in store all year round, likely due to consumer demand, and that no one is forcing shoppers to buy them if they have an issue with them being stocked so soon. Plenty of others expressed excitement at the addition to their supermarket aisles and couldn't see a problem with the delicious goodies already being in store.

Aussie mum of two Stacey Grant noticed hot cross buns in her local Aldi as early as November 7, taking to TikTok to share her disbelief with her 72k followers.

"Can we just have Christmas first 😂," she captioned the video.

Interestingly, the buns that Stacey found were labeled as 'spiced fruit buns', not 'hot cross buns' which Aldi is now advertising.

"They're always there! When it’s Easter they change them to be called Hot Cross Buns instead of fruit buns," one of Stacey's followers said.

"Hot Cross buns are related to Easter! Why sell them many months before Easter!" one shopper asked.

"Sorry. I ignore hot cross buns until the week leading into Good Friday. I’m not religious but I believe in tradition," another weighed in. "Sadly a lot of people don’t."
