While she wasn't present, The Brutalist director Brady Corbet paid tribute to Aubrey and Jeff after winning Best Director.

"Finally, tonight my heart is with Aubrey Plaza and Jeff's family - good night," he said, as the cameras panned to an emotional Adrien Brody, who held back tears.

Jeff and Aubrey began dating in 2011 and married ten years later in 2021. The pair had collaborated on several projects including films such as Life After Beth, The Little Hours and Spin Me Round.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's officials have ruled Jeff's death a suicide.

"Jeff Baena was a sweet, Jewish boy from Miami," Adam began. "He was a collaborator, a mentor, the scrappiest basketball player with the ugliest jump shot you ever saw. He was a talented director with impeccable taste and vision, he was a connector of people, a fosterer of possibility, the guy who knows where the best restaurant was no matter where you were."

Adam described Jeff as "an overly gracious host with an almost disturbing open door policy, a film encyclopaedia, and most importantly to me, a friend."

He added, "My heart breaks for my friend Aubrey and the Baena family and for all of us who spent time on his sets or at his house or in his orbit. Thanks for believing in me, Jeff, may your memory be a blessing."

Jeff's brother Brad commented on Adam's post, "I am broken."

She also commented on Adam's post, writing, "Adam this is the best tribute and describes Jeff perfectly. His movies were so original. He was a brilliant writer and director and on top of that so visual with an amazing eye. And so kind and thoughtful bringing everyone together (almost always in Italy!!!) his work lives on. His memory lives on forever. 💔 thank you for writing this."

Alison also starred in several of Jeff's films and shared several photos to her Instagram Stories, adding a broken heart emoji and a link to Adam's tribute.

While Aubrey and Jeff were relatively private about their relationship, the pair have previously spoken about their love for each other.

"She's awesome," Jeff said on the Reel Talker podcast in 2022. "I’d be working with her if she wasn’t my wife, but luckily she is my wife."

"The opportunity to do something creative where we’re both fulfilled. How rare is that?"

Aubrey also admitted in June 2019 that she loved having a partner in the entertainment industry, telling People, "I think that when you’re with someone that is in your field, they understand what you’re dealing with on a deeper level."

"So obviously you are able to support each other and really understand kind of the journey that we’re both on."

Aubrey joked about her wedding on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, telling the host, "We got a little bored one night... We got married. And I'll tell you how – OneHourMarriage.com. That's real. Look it up."

She explained that it was their ten year wedding anniversary and they were in Covid lockdown, saying, "And I just said, 'Hey, it's our ten year anniversary, we should do something, get an ice cream cone... and, you know, do something special. And then I joked about getting married, and he's like, 'Well we probably couldn't get married that fast,' and I said, 'Well wouldn't it be nice to get married on our actual anniversary?'

"And then I Googled it and I found OneHourMarriage.com and then I called around 5pm and I said, 'Can you come in an hour and marry me in our yard? And he said, 'How about tomorrow?' And I said, 'Well, that's not what you're advertising.' And then he said, 'Alright, I'll come, but I'm in Alhambra, so you gotta pay extra, and I'll be there in two hours.' And I said, 'Sold!'"

She joked that the man showed up in "a Hawaiian shirt" and that she "can't remember a lot of" the wedding, adding, "But I'm pretty sure it's legal!"
