Ariana Grande's 59-Year-Old Archival Dress at 2025 Golden Globes Is a Subtle Nod to Her “Wicked” Character
Grande is up for best performance by a female actor in a supporting role
Ariana Grande brought the magic to the 2025 Golden Globes.
The singer and actress, 31, floated down the red carpet for the awards show on Jan. 5 in yet another show-stopping ensemble inspired by her Wicked character, Glinda.
She hit the Los Angeles red carpet in a pale yellow empire waist column gown with a beaded bodice. The look is from the Haute Couture S/S 1966 collection by Hubert de Givenchy and was purchased from Rita Watnick-owned LILY et Cie.
"It’s yellow because follow the yellow brick road," Grande told Variety during the preshow. "And it’s one of Glinda’s favorite colors."
The star added, "This is Givenchy 1966 archive. My stylist Mimi [Cuttrell] and I found it and we were so excited."
In a release about the look, an archivist at Givenchy shared, "The dress is pale yellow silk with a hand-beaded bodice ... from the epic Givenchy Haute Couture/Audrey Hepburn era ... cne of the most important unions between a designer and muse."
Grande accessorized with white opera gloves, pale yellow pointed-toe pumps, a sparkling choker and earrings. She wore her blonde hair in a sleek ponytail with short bangs.
Grande is nominated for best performance by a female actor in a supporting role for her turn as Glinda in Wicked. She is up against Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave) and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez) in the category.
This is Grande's first nomination for a Golden Globe, and the actress told PEOPLE in December that it was "so surreal" to find out that not only was she nominated, but her Wicked costar Cynthia Erivo was as well. (Erivo is nominated for best performance by a female actor in a motion picture – musical or comedy.)
The costars quickly called each other after hearing of their nominations, Grande shared at the Academy Women's Luncheon presented by Chanel. "We were just crying together and screaming, and we sent each other flowers immediately," Grande told PEOPLE. "I'm just really deeply proud of her and of us together and the work that we've done. And to see it be recognized is just so — the weight is more than I could have imagined."

Throughout the entire press tour for Wicked, which was released in November 2024, Grande has embodied her character Glinda by dressing in outfits that look like they were ripped right off the screen. She has worn everything from pink ballgowns to a dress that could have been Glinda the Good Witch's bubble.
At the 36th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards on Jan. 3, Grande arrived wearing a custom Louis Vuitton dress with a voluminous bubble skirt that resembled Glinda's preferred mode of transportation in Wicked and The Wizard of Oz. She wore her dark blonde hair pulled back from her face with her bangs swept to the side.
At the event, Grande was honored with the rising star award, which was presented to her by Jennifer Coolidge. In her acceptance speech, Grande jokingly poked fun at her age, saying to the room, "I've been performing since I was a child, so I never thought at the age of 31 I would be hearing the words 'rising star' again, so I wanted to start by thanking my two friends: Botox and Juvederm."

To celebrate her first Golden Globe nomination, Grande and her mom attended the Golden Globes First-time Nominees Luncheon in December in Beverly Hills, Calif. The Wicked star wore a belted champagne-colored Christian Dior by Yves Saint Laurent midi dress from 1959. She paired the chic dress with matching pointed-toe heels.
Her mom perfectly contrasted her in an all-black look, wearing a long-sleeved dress, which she paired with black tights and black heels. The two posed for photos on the red carpet ahead of the event.
