Ariana Grande Went Pantsless to Celebrate Her Oscar Nomination in a Rare Ethan Slater Photo
We love a supportive boyfriend.
Nobody in all of Oz can bring Ariana Grande down today. After receiving her first Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Glinda in Wicked, the star's boyfriend and co-star Ethan Slater celebrated the milestone with a sweet and rare photo of the singer.
On Thursday morning, Slater and Grande's co-star Bowen Yang announced the 2025 Oscar nominations alongside actress and comedian Rachel Sennott. Slater, who plays Boq in the film, posted a photo of Grande, who is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, wearing nothing but a long ivory sweater while standing barefoot on a windowsill. The actress and singer can be seen holding a bundle of Glinda-coded pink balloons while peering out the window. Slater let the photo do the talking and opted for no caption.
The film received a total of 10 nominations, including Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo's role as Elphaba, and Best Picture. Grande took to Instagram herself as well to express her gratitude. "picking my head up in between sobs to say thank you so much to @theacademy for this unfathomable recognition," she captioned alongside a carousel featuring a throwback photo of a young Grande dressed as Dorothy. "i cannot stop crying, to no one’s surprise. i’m humbled and deeply honored to be in such brilliant company and sharing this with tiny ari who sat and studied Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow just before the big, beautiful bubble entered. i’m so proud of you, tiny.
thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for this acknowledgement @theacademy."
She went on to thank the movie's director, John M. Chu, and congratulate Erivo on her nomination. "thank you @jonmchu for taking this chance on me and for being the most unbelievably brilliant leader, human being, and most fierce friend," she continued. "i am so deeply proud of my beautiful Wicked family. i am so proud of my Elphie, my sister, my dear @cynthiaerivo. your brilliance is never ending and you deserve every flower (tulip) in every garden. i love you unconditionally, always."
"i don’t quite have all my words yet, i’m still trying to breathe. but thank you. oh my goodness, thank you. Universal, Marc, my family, my heart," she added. "lemons and melons and pears, oh my. 🫧"
Grande and Slater started dating in 2023 after meeting on the set of Wicked. Their relationship was confirmed just days after news broke of Grande's split from ex-husband Dalton Gomez. Slater also filed for divorce from his wife Lilly Jay, with whom he shares a 2-year-old son.
