Ariana Grande fans upset by 'sick' question asked on Golden Globes red carpet

Ariana Grande is taking it all in stride.

Fans of the pop star are up in arms after a reporter on the red carpet of the Golden Globes asked the actress if her grandmother was "still alive."

In videos shared on social media, the Access Hollywood reporter asks Grande who was the first person she called when she learned she was nominated for a Golden Globe. The "Wicked" star says her mom, Joan Grande, before the reporter asks, "grandmother still alive?" Grande doesn't appear offended by the question, answering that her "Nonna," who is 99, is in fact still alive and was the second person she called.

Access Hollywood's video of the interaction cuts the question out, showing Grande going on to add that "Wicked" co-star Cynthia Erivo and her acting coach were her next calls.

Fans online were in disbelief, with one writing on X, "THIS IS SICK?" and "why would she ask it like that" while another pointed out, "that is such a risky question, why would she ask that." One X user wrote: "what happened to saying 'hows your grandma?'"

In a more light-hearted interaction on the red carpet, Entertainment Tonight caught the singer with her mom, who told a bit of a cheeky joke about meeting Harrison Ford on the carpet.

"That was my goal," Joan Grande told ET. "We've pretty much done everything except Harrison Ford. And I don't mean we did it but, you know what I mean." The comment visibly shocked her daughter.

Grande, sporting a new hair color, was one of the many celebrities who brought their parents for Sunday's award show, including Margaret Qualley, who brought her dad Paul Qualley as her date in lieu of husband Jack Antonoff. The singer was nominated for best supporting actress and the 2025 Golden Globes, eventually losing out to Zoe Saldaña for her role in "Emilia Pérez."
