‘Anora’ and ‘Emilia Pérez’ Among the Lineup for MoMA Contenders 2024 Screenings and Discussions

The Hammer Museum revealed its lineup for MoMA Contenders 2024, the annual film series organized by The Museum of Modern Art. Ten nights of films will screen at the Hammer’s Billy Wilder Theater from Dec. 3 – Dec. 19, followed by exclusive conversations with actors, filmmakers, and special guests. Among the features are highly anticipated dramas speculated to become Oscar contenders. The event is open to the public, and tickets can be purchased on the Hammer website. They are $20 for the general public and $10 for members.

The series opens with Brady Cobert’s “The Brutalist” on Dec. 3 followed by Malcolm Washington’s “The Piano Lesson” with actress Danielle Deadwyler on Dec. 4. The Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize Winner “Emilia Pérez” will be shown on Dec. 9 including a Q&A with the film composers Clément Ducol and Camille. “Blitz,” the Apple original, will screen on Dec. 10 alongside a conversation with its director, Steve McQueen. To close the festival is a screening of Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner “Anora” on Dec. 19.

The remaining films include the stop-motion animation “Memoir of a Snail” with guests still to be determined playing on Dec. 5. The following week, on Dec.11 will screen “Maria.” Writer and director India Donaldson will talk about her film “Good One” after its screening played on Dec. 12. “Last Night with the Devil” with actor David Dastmalchian will be featured on Dec. 17. And, a screening of “The Substance” will take place on Dec. 18 with special guests also to be announced.
