Aldi cult buy helps transform grubby couch: 'Impressive'

A mum has revealed how a cult Aldi product helped her transform a stained and grubby couch in her kids' playroom into something that looked brand new.

Tara, from South Australia, told Yahoo Lifestyle exactly what she used to bring the sad-looking IKEA fabric sofa back to life after some heavy use by her three-year-old twin daughters and son, 2.

"First I went over it with Di-San stain remover from Aldi and then I used a bar of SARD Wonder Soap on the really tough stains and rubbed that on it," she says.

At just $1.29, Aldi's Di-San Pre Wash Stain Remover (in the purple spray bottle) is one of the cheaper options on the market but its versatility and cleaning power have won over shoppers and experts alike.

Next, Tara gave the couch a good going-over with her Bissell SpotClean device using the two products that it came with: the Spot & Stain Formula and the Oxy Pro Stain Remover.

The Bissell Spotcleaner is also a bit of a cult buy, especially among people with young kids or pets and fabric lounges. But at around $239, is it really worth splashing that amount of cash?

"Yes definitely!!" Tara says. "At first, I was unsure but it definitely did the job. We did our main couch and I’m happy with those results also."

Once she was satisfied, Tara opened up the window and blinds to let it dry which she says only took about half a day.

"I was so impressed!" she says.

What makes it even more impressive is the fact that the couch was actually a secondhand purchase of Facebook Marketplace.

'Brand new'

Tara was so pleased with her cleaning handiwork she took to a Facebook group to share some snaps of the couch before, during and after its makeover.

"This is the couch in my kids' playroom, god knows what they have done to it but it now looks brand new!" she captioned the pics.

Tara's fellow Facebook users were similarly enamoured with the change.

"Well done hardworking mama," wrote one.

"Impressive!!" added another.

"#couchporn hnnnng so satisfying," said a third.

Looking at the 'after' photo, some users asked Tara if the couch had actually changed colour as it appeared more blue-grey but Tara explained that the 'before' and 'during' photos had been taken at night under a warm light while the final 'after' was taken in daylight.
