Aldi has won a major award for a kitchen staple that most of us rely on every day – coffee! Aldi Australia’s Lazzio beans, which are roasted by Melbourne-based Black Bag Roasters, have won the Overall Large Chain Champion category at the 2024 Golden Bean Australiasia Awards.

Lazzio coffee beans are the heroes we all need during this cost-of-living crisis, with a cup of coffee coming in at just $0.30, offering a little luxury for much less. The full range consists of 10 coffee blends and Lazzio won another 14 Golden Bean medals in various categories.

Black Bag Roasters have been supplying the award-winning coffee to Aldi exclusively, and over the past decade, they have increased coffee production from four tonnes a week in 2014 to 65 tonnes a week now.

So, what do Aldi shoppers have to say? As it turns out, many of them have raved about the coffee beans online, with one Facebook user and self-professed 'coffee snob' writing, "We buy the medium, the dark or the medium dark, rotate around.....I am a huge coffee snob and used to spend an absolute fortune on beans but we both love the Aldi ones."

"I use the medium roast love it people comment about the aroma when I make coffee," another said.

"I started buying the Aldi beans just lately, thought I’d give them a try for the great price," a third said. "Bought the dark beans. LOVE them, as good as the other expensive brands."

"I like the medium roast Lazzio. Once bought the dark one and found it bitter. Ended up mixing the 2 and the coffee was perfect," someone else suggested, with another agreeing, "Do half and half. The mix of the two beans is great."

"Massive coffee snob here, and the Lazzio medium and dark is a damn fine drop for the price," yet another said. "It ain’t Pablo and Rusty - but for a general purpose coffee it’ll save you a fortune. Better than most of the stuff I buy out."
