ACE Eddie Awards Will be a Fundraiser ‘Filled With Purpose, Togetherness and Recognition’

American Cinema Editors is pivoting its 75th Eddie Awards, which is slated to be held on Jan. 18, from a black-tie gala to a “community building” fundraiser in response to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

ACE informed members on Saturday that the honorary society would “still have the privilege to acknowledge the artistry and hard work of all our honorees and nominees, but also have a chance to give back to those affected by the recent tragedies. While it may not be the night of festivities we are used to, we are proud to have our 75th annual Eddies event be filled with purpose, togetherness and recognition.”

In addition to recognizing editors in its competitive categories, Jon M. Chu is scheduled to accept the Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award and editors Maysie Hoy and Paul Hirsch are this year’s Career Achievement Award honorees.

Given the circumstances, ACE also revised the dress code, which is now “come as you are” with black-tie optional. “Whether you’re in a gown or tux or a t-shirt and jeans, we can’t wait to see you. Our hearts go out to all in need,” reads a message from ACE.

The Eddies voting deadline was additionally extended to today at 5pm.

Various guilds and societies representing artisans also pivoted judging, voting and nominations announcements that were scheduled in this timeframe.

The American Society of Cinematographers postponed its Jan. 9-scheduled announcement of its ASC Awards nominations, which, initially, was to include an in-person event at its ASC Clubhouse. Following that change, the area around its historic clubhouse, which has been the ASC’s headquarters since 1937 and sits in close proximity to Hollywood & Highland, was evacuated due to the Sunset fire but the evacuate mandate has since been lifted.
