“9-1-1”'s Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman break down that “Risky” and touching 'Buddie' final moment
Season 8, episode 6 of the ABC drama ended in a silent scene between Buck and Eddie — or, as fans know them, 'Buddie.'
Friends are there for each other in the good times and the bad — even if one of them doesn't have pants on.
Thursday night's episode of 9-1-1 dropped a lot of shockers (and jaws). Among them, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) are expecting a second kid; boyfriends Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) and Buck (Oliver Stark) realize they both dated Abby (season 1 star Connie Britton) and then break up; and then there's that almost shot-for-shot homage to Tom Cruise's Risky Business dance after Eddie (Ryan Guzman) finally shaves his mustache.
Entertainment Weekly will have more coverage on those big moments later. But one of the most touching moments of season 8, episode 6, "Confessions," came in its final moments when an elated Eddie (still clad in his Tom Cruise cosplay) welcomes a despondent Buck into his home for a beer in silence.

"I think the strength of that scene and the strength of their bond is that they don't have to speak," Stark tells EW of the "Buddie" friendship. "They're both going through very different things and they're both dealing with them in very different ways, yet they know they can do that together and that there's a source of strength there that has been built up between them. It's this safe space that they create for each other."
"Buck is obviously a real mood killer because Eddie is very much on an upper and then here comes Mr. Doom and Gloom," Stark continues, though his screen partner disagrees: "I don't even know if they kind of pick up on each other's energy," Guzman says. "They just want to be around somebody they know, they trust, they feel comfortable around. That is a true brother moment."
And like true brothers, one doesn't even question why the other isn't wearing pants.

"He just blows right past me. I'm in my chonies and I'm just like, 'All right, beer? Sure, fine, whatever,'" Guzman says with a laugh. "So yeah, it's a good scene."
"The idea of Buck just walking in, not even questioning what Eddie's been up to, just handing him a beer, and these two guys just sitting down because he just needed to have the support of his friend..." 9-1-1 co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear adds, trailing off before continuing: "They don't need to talk. I think that their friendship is such that it's like, 'Oh, you need me to be there for you. All right. Here, let me pop a cold one.'"
"To be honest, I don't think they talk for a long time. I don't think they need to," Stark adds of how long he guesses the characters sit in silence. "That's not the point. The point is 'I need somebody right now. And I trust you probably more than anyone in this moment, so thank you for being here.'"
