Queen Camilla Breaks Royal Tradition by Taking on This Household Task
A royal insider revealed that she could be the first queen to do it.
Queen Camilla's son, Tom Parker Bowles, is giving a sweet peek behind the gilded gates of Buckingham Palace. According to the cookbook author, he thinks that his mother's prowess in the kitchen has given her a very unique distinction in the royal history books. Parker Bowles told Discover Britain that he believes his mother is the very first queen to have cooked a meal.
"It’s probably true that my mother is the first queen to have ever cooked," he said, before adding that Camilla "cooks less now, but cooked for two children for 20 years and is very good."
Marie Claire notes that Camilla's childhood and life as a commoner before she became the Queen of England sets her apart from other royals like Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth, who never had to learn how to cook.
Parker Bowles also told Discover Britain that he's "always been fascinated by" the world of food and its relationship with the royal family. However, he shared that he "avoided the subject" until now "for obvious reasons," saying that he waited for his mother to become a royal before he did his deep dive.
"Queen Victoria and Edward VII would have 12 dishes for lunch and rich teas," he revealed of what he found when he started digging into the royals' habits. "They also liked good British food."
