'Yellowstone' finale: Lainey Wilson's Abby finally returned. What happened?
Spoilers ahead for the Season 5 finale. Stop reading if you don't want to know.
Country star Lainey Wilson returned to "Yellowstone" in epic fashion with a major TV love reunion with Ian Bohen in Sunday's Season 5 finale.
Wilson, 32, made her TV acting debut portraying free-spirited musician Abby, who fell hard for bunkhouse cowboy Ryan (Ian Bohen) in 2023's Season 5 premiere.
The couple got hot and heavy before Ryan had to do his cowboy work in Texas, and Abby had to do her musician work on the road. Wilson called the part written for her by "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan "a dream come true." Fans have called for Abby's return since the two TV lovers went their separate ways.
Well, hang tight, honey. True country love prevails. The cowboy couple reunited with Wilson's return to make for one of the happiest moments in Sunday's drama — which reportedly will mark the end of "Yellowstone."

How did Lainey Wilson return to 'Yellowstone'?
After leaving Abby to tend to Dutton cattle in Texas, Ryan decides he won't continue ranching, especially since the Yellowstone Ranch is closing. He ends up buying a standing-room ticket for one of Abby's concerts. It's the only spot left, the ticket seller tells him. Abby has clearly done almost as well as Wilson, who snared five trophies at 2023's Country Music Association Awards, the first woman to take home the top prize in over a decade.
Ryan enters the concert (the scenes were shot earlier this year at a show in Fort Worth, Texas) to see Abby rocking Wilson's hit, "Hang Tight Honey," a song about a touring performer yearning to be home with a loved one. Everyone's standing in the honky-tonk venue, so that "seat sellout" thing might be hype. But we quibble, because it's a rocking show and Ryan's thinking, "Why did I ever leave her for cows in Texas?"
Moments after Abby sings, "I'm headed straight home to you," she approaches Ryan, who admits, "I made a mistake. I picked the wrong thing." Working Dutton cattle in Texas wasn't his Super Bowl.
"You are my Super Bowl," Ryan tells Abby. She kisses him deeply while holding a Coors in her free hand. (Great kiss, but not overwhelming enough to forget product placement.)
Abby invites Ryan to join "life on the bus," and he doesn't even have to work as a roadie. "I'll take it," he says with a smile before they exit hand in hand to a new life.
Bohen and Wilson re-posted Instagram videos Monday from the official "Yellowstone" page showing the two stars goofing around backstage with the caption, "We’re going anywhere Abby and Ryan are going!"
Why did Lainey Wilson return to 'Yellowstone' finale?
There were many stories to close in Sunday's finale. Yet, Sheridan added a major scene with Abby performing, and then reuniting with Ryan. Sheridan has implemented Wilson's music on "Yellowstone" even before the country singer turned superstar, and before the first acting appearance.
Executive producer Christina A. Voros says the songs from rising country stars are "part of 'Yellowstone's DNA."
"From the very beginning, (Sheridan) dropped people in for cameos, and pulled tracks from up-and-coming artists for the show's soundtrack, giving them this launchpad," Voros tells USA TODAY. "So in the final episode, we touch on all the things that made 'Yellowstone' what it is. Music is very much part of that."
And, of course, "Yellowstone" had to bring Abby and Ryan back together.
