Yahoo Lifestyle Will 'Y2K' Stream Before New Year's? Here's What We Know

If you're a fan of offbeat humor and the kind of quirky, cult-worthy films A24 is known for, gird your loins for Y2K, a new project from Saturday Night Live alum Kyle Mooney. The film is a comedy-horror, following a group of teenagers surviving what some people thought the “year 2000 problem” would cause.
The film joins A24’s family of new horror, a collection of films blending genres and finding virality online. We’re talking about movies like Bodies Bodies Bodies and Ti West’s iconic trilogy; X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. We could go on, and we will. Y2K also joins the likes of Beau is Afraid, Dream Scenario, and Men. It’s a weighted legacy to uphold, but who better to try than one of SNL’s new legends?
What is Y2K about, and how can I watch it?
For those of you born after the year 2000, “Y2K” represents the turning of the clock on New Year's Eve in 1999. People were convinced that the programming change from 1900 to 2000 in computer systems would cripple technological infrastructures and basically spark the fall of civilization. It was a flat-earth conspiracy for tech nerds, and Kyle Mooney made a movie about it.
The story is amplified for comedy horror purposes, as machines gain sentience to life to violently destroy the human race. The film, which landed in theaters on December 6th, stars Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, and Julian Dennison as the core trio. For those looking for 2000s nostalgia, you’ll find it here. Y2K also features Clueless star Alicia Silverstone and Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst. Again, for those born after the year 2000, Limp Bizkit is a band that was a big deal. We will not be accepting questions at this time and don’t need your jokes.
This is Durst’s second A24 film of the year, appearing in I Saw The TV Glow. That film came out in May and follows two teenagers whose lives are altered by their favorite vampire television show. Like if eight years of The Vampire Diaries changed our lives, not just our brain chemistry.
When can I stream it Y2K?
No streaming date has been released yet, but in keeping with the spirit of the film, they should, IMO, release it come New Year’s Eve. When that day does come–be it in this year or next–Y2K will stream on Max, thanks to the streamer’s partnership with Warner Bros.
