What is appendiceal cancer?

Appendiceal cancer is caused when cells in the appendix become abnormal and keep growing to form a tumour, according to the Cancer Council.

This type of cancer may not cause symptoms in the early stages, however, some people may experience appendicitis, a gradual increase in waist size, bloating, a change in bowel habits, hernias or lumps.

The cancer is usually found during surgery for a different condition or after the removal of the appendix for a suspected case of appendicitis.

Sadly, because the causes of appendix cancer are unknown, there are no preventative measures that one can take.
