At first glance this bikini looks like the ultimate swim getup for a day at the beach.

But if you’re keen to actually splash around in it, think again.

A woman has taken to social media to reveal the neon bikini from swim retailer Oh Polly is actually for ‘poolside only’ purposes, and even the smallest contact with water will end in disaster.

“I get so many messages about this bikini!” she wrote on Twitter alongside a photo of the bikini, and the colour it left on her white bed sheets.

“It’s from Oh Polly but it’s one of them for ‘poolside only’ which is ridiculous since it’s listed in the ‘swim’ section.

“I did not get in the pool with this bikini, water contact was TINY and this is the colour transfer!” she explained.

The woman said she couldn’t fault the way in which the high-cut bikini looked, but regrets purchasing it without being informed that it can’t actually be worn for swimming purposes.

“The bikini itself is stunning but I wish I’d known it literally cannot come in to contact with any water at all or else the colour will run and stain everything including my skin!” she continued.

“Love the bikini but spending £40 ($AU 71) to barely be able to wear it is not ideal.”

Another Twitter user replied to the thread, revealing she’d been in a similar situation.

“I had this one from them, jumped in the sea off a boat at a boat party for legit 60 seconds and the colour ran and now it looks yellow ish too! Im gutted (sic),” she wrote.

“I’m gonna have to contact them, so dumb a bikini that can’t go in water,” she added.

While the brand gave the first woman a replacement bikini, the facts couldn’t be ignored.

She said: “I sent them an email and they’re replacing it for free which is useless since you can’t even wear it”.
