The 'real reason' Johanna Griggs quit House Rules

After hosting House Rules for seven seasons, Johanna Griggs stepped down from the reality TV gig last week following the 2019 series finale.

The 45-year-old admitted “reality TV production has been an eye opener”, but nonetheless she’s had “a great time over the last 7 years steering the ship”, however a new report claims there’s more to the reason behind her decision to quit.

According to Woman’s Day magazine, producers’ demands took a toll on Johanna.

“As the pursuit for ratings gets more intense, producers are pushing participants to the brink as they try to manufacture dramatic television,” a source allegedly told the publication.

“Those production techniques just don't sit well with Joh's core values, and as a board member of Beyond Blue she couldn't condone it any more.”

Yahoo Lifestyle has contacted Channel Seven for comment.

Joh’s announcement

Last week Johanna took to Instagram to confirm she wouldn’t be returning to the Channel Seven show in 2020.

“After a great deal of consideration, I recently sat down with the Network to ask to be allowed to step down as Host of House Rules,” the beloved personality shared in an emotional post, adding that the network ‘graciously’ agreed.

Joh also hosts Better Homes and Gardens, and seemed to point to maintaining that gig as being the primary reason behind her decision.

“My role as host of Better Homes and Gardens, which everyone knows I’m crazy about, keeps me very busy,” she wrote, adding her decision would allow her to balance that commitment.

Her next move

Joh is a former competitive swimmer, and took home bronze at the 1990 Commonwealth Games.

It looks like she might be diving back into the world of sport, if a heavy-handed hint in her public sign-off is anything to go by.

“Hopefully now though, with a different work load, I’ll be in a better position to take up one or two of the great opportunities that come my way, especially with 7 Sport, which is such a passion for me.”
