Delta Goodrem walks off The Voice in tears after tribute performance
Delta Goodrem has walked off the set of The Voice in tears after one act’s emotion-charged performance left few dry eyes in the house.
The moving set was performed by New Zealand trio The Koi Boys, who moved the audience to tears with their soulful rendition of The Beatles’ Let it Be.
A tragic tribute
The band dedicated their performance the victims and families of the 51 people killed in the Christchurch mosque shootings on March 15.
For Delta, the group’s coach, this all proved too much and after becoming teary-eyed during the performance, she was unable to gather her thoughts afterwards.
“Take a moment Delta,” host Sonia Kruger told the act’s celebrity coach.
She then proceeded to leave her chair and quickly migrated out of the audience’s sight to backstage, adding she ‘felt so ill’.
“I am just not sure how to have that conversation with either of them. I don't want to upset any of them you know?” she told a producer.
And while she was alone in leaving the set, Delta wasn’t the only star overwhelmed by the performance.
Not the only one
Kelly Rowland was also left unable to speak while Guy Sebastian fought through tears to evaluate the rendition.
“[This is] why we sing, because it’s still a wonderful world,” Guy said in reference to the song the band chose in their first gig following the attack.
“As you were about to sing I could hear you guys sobbing, and then you’ve got to try and sing a song which is why.”
Although the performance was among the most memorable of the series, it wasn’t enough to sail them through to the next round.
Instead, Delta chose to advance Daniel Shaw from The Battle rounds, saying he ‘needs me more right now’.
However, The Koi Boys didn’t go home empty handed, with their star coach offering the trio to be her opening act on an Australia-wide tour later this year.
