Yahoo Lifestyle Whoopi Goldberg Issues Warning About Scam Using Her Image: ‘I’m Giving Everybody a Heads-Up’
Whoopi Goldberg isn't one to remain silent when she sees something wrong—and recently, The View co-host issued a warning about an online scam using her image.
On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Goldberg, 69, sent a direct message to fans about the nefarious advertisement putting words in her mouth.
"I'm giving everybody a heads-up," she said during Wednesday's live show. "There's a phony weight-loss ad floating around online on Instagram that has me, AI-mouthed, saying all kinds of stuff."
In her message, Goldberg reiterated to viewers that she doesn't "sell anything," and cautioned fans about trusting any ad they see of her unless she says, "Hey, it's me, Whoopi."
"They have me selling bad weight-loss drugs," she added. "Do not indulge in this, do not look at this, just get rid of it. Because I don't know what it is, I had nothing to do with it, and I don't want y'all thinking that this is coming for me."
Although Goldberg has previously opened up about using the weight loss drug Mounjaro, she does not support the product using her likeness in the scam ad.
"But, this stuff, I don't know who these people are," she said on The View. "That's the problem with AI. You don't know who made it. But I'm telling you it's a lot of BS. Don't fall for it!"
In the comments of a YouTube video showing Goldberg's PSA, viewers reacted to the warning.
One person wrote, "I saw it yesterday I knew it was b.s. cuz they said you weighed almost 500 lbs."
Another shared, "I saw the ad today and reported it and blocked them."
Meanwhile, someone else commented, "WHOOPI … there is a hypnotist ad too. That’s using Whoopi’s voice."
Goldberg revealed her Mounjaro use during a May 2024 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, explaining she turned to the weight loss drug after she reached 300 pounds while filming her movie Till in 2022.
