“The West Wing” stars Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford reunite on “The Diplomat”
Whitford will play Janney's husband on season 3.
If anybody knows their way around the White House, it's Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford.
Netflix has officially announced that Whitford will join his former West Wing costar Janney in the third season of The Diplomat. Whitford will play Todd Penn, the husband of Janney's Grace Penn, who was very close to losing her position as vice president to none other than Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) until the season 2 finale changed everything.

When Hal (Rufus Sewell) changed up the game plan and decided to tell the president (Michael McKean) that Grace was behind the attack on the British vessel, well, he was so shocked that he died. In other words, Grace, the woman Kate had just confronted about her choices, is now the leader of the United States.

But she won't have to handle it all alone. Netflix has released first-look images of Whitford as Todd, though sadly, they're not in the White House, which for many fans, is where they recognize Whitford and Janney best after they spent seven years sharing a screen (not to mention perfecting the art of the walk-and-talk) on The West Wing. Specifically, Janney's C.J. Cregg was Jed Bartlet's (Martin Sheen) press secretary while Whitford's Josh Lyman was his deputy chief of staff. They both have Emmys for their work on the critically acclaimed series.
And yet, the reunion doesn't end there. The Diplomat creator, Debora Cahn, was also a writer on the Aaron Sorkin drama.
At this point, we don't know just how much we'll get to see of Todd (or if we'll ever see the two of them in the Oval Office together), but let's just say we hope they have a very snarky, very fast-paced relationship.
