Ted Lasso fans got the unexpected Richmond and Kensington Palace crossover they didn’t know they needed on Saturday as Prince William and Hannah Waddingham stepped out together for a casual game of darts. Ahead of the holidays, the Prince of Wales and Waddingham–who played Rebecca Welton in the popular Apple TV+ series–met up for some friendly competition and a round of beers at Alexandra Palace to promote the royal’s upcoming documentary, The Earthshot Report.

Named after Prince William’s annual competition The Earthshot Prize, which sources environmental solutions from around the world, the documentary will be premiering in the United Kingdom on December 15 and then in the U.S. on PBS on December 18. Before host Waddingham highlights some of the best entries from this year’s environmentalism competition, Prince William will make an appearance in a special introductory segment.

Ahead of the documentary’s official release, Waddingham and Prince William appeared in a special promotional video released on December 14, which shows them facing off in the classic bar game. The beginning of the 10-minute video showed a brief clip of the pair laughing as they played darts before Waddingham introduced the setting of their competition: Alexandra Palace, which is where the Eartshot Prize has been held every year since 2021.

Next, Waddingham set the stage for a mystery guest and quipped, “I was going to open your door” as Prince William got out of the backseat of a black SUV. Shaking hands with him, she deadpanned, “Welcome to my palace," gesturing to Alexandra Palace behind her.

Revealing that the palace was also the setting of the world’s dart competition, she suggested, “Shall we go in and have a look and cause some mischief?” Grabbing a round of beers at a bar inside, the pair walked over to a single dart board, and the Emmy award-winning actress shared, “I definitely want to beat you at darts later” before they briefly discussed some of the best environmental initiatives pushing forward a “decade of change” in the film.

“I’m feeling equal joy and terror about playing darts with you, you know, the future King of England,” she admitted as they began their friendly game, which had both competitors striking out.

Joking that they’d need to do a “cut away” scene to make it appear like they were playing better than they were, Prince William also opened up about how he’d talked to his kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis about the message behind the Earthshot Prize.

“I talk to my children all the time about it,” he revealed. “It’s important that they see, touch, feel, and experience nature. It’s very hard for anyone to understand what’s the point of protecting it if you’ve never used it.”
