Watch Dan Levy Jokingly Scold Dad Eugene for "Bad Parenting" at the 2024 Emmys
Eugene and Dan Levy just came off of hosting the 2024 Emmys, and it's clear the comedy gene runs in the family!
The two actors were emcees for TV's biggest night on September 15, and viewers got to watch Eugene and Dan ham it up for the cameras in between awards being given out. During the opening monologue of the ceremony, it appeared Eugene was going to give a touching moment about how his most important role in life would be raising Dan (and his sister Sarah, whom he shares with wife Deborah Divine). But as Eugene hilariously pointed out, he's portrayed many father figures — with Schitt's Creek (where he played Johnny Rose) winning him his own Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series award back in 2020.
"You know, this is a very special night for me," he began in the clip. "You know I played a lot of dads in my day. Yes, I was a dad in American Pie. I was a dad in Finding Dory and our show Schitt's Creek. But without question, my most rewarding dad role ever has been being your dad... in Schitt's Creek. Because it got me my first acting Emmy."
When the audience cheered on Eugene's own Emmy Awards accomplishment, Dan (who won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series the same year for his portrayal of David Rose) couldn't help but call out Eugene for making him believe being his father was the best thing he ever did.
"Why are we applauding bad parenting?" Dan jokingly asked the audience in admonishment.
Given how Eugene and Dan's dynamic is always a hit with audiences, folks couldn't hold it together upon watching this hilarious interaction.
"Love these guys!!" one person wrote in the YouTube comments. "Wow - they did so well hosting!" another exclaimed. "What will it take to bring back Schitt's Creek?" a different follower added.
While it may be a while before we see Dan and Eugene back onstage for their antics, at least we got the Schitt's Creek reunion we were all waiting for! Annie Murphy (who played Alexis Rose) and Catherine O'Hara (who played Moira Rose) were both on hand as Catherine presented the Outstanding Comedy Series award, making it a perfect end to a great night of comedy... at least from Eugene and Dan.
Crossing our fingers we get this duo back as hosts next year!
