Carpool Karaoke has officially returned for a holiday special with Apple Music's Zane Lowe and this time, it's a pop diva winter wonderland. In A Very Carpool Karaoke Christmas, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, and Chappell Roan each embarked on a road trip with Zane in Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Missouri, performing hits from their discographies as well as holiday classics (yes, Gaga's "Christmas Tree" does fall under that category in 2024, tyvm).

This marks Chappell's first appearance on the beloved series, which originally gained popularity as a segment on The Late Late Show With James Corden in 2016. The rising star sang Wham!'s “Last Christmas” along with tracks like “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl.” She even made a pitstop at one of her fave hometown spots, Andy's Frozen Custard, but the sweetest part of her carpool was when her parents joined her to sing the song that started it all: “Pink Pony Club.”

The track's lyrics were largely inspired by the Midwest Princess's religious upbringing and her relationship with her parents, Kara and Dwight.

“I started to tear up just listening to her sing it just now. We love her so much and we’re so proud of what she does and who she is and what she stands for,” Kara said from the backseat. “I love singing it with her at her shows and I love it when you can just see the people just respond to that song so much.”

Dwight joined in with teary eyes, adding, “I hope that that’s something that she always knows, that we love her so much and we could never not be proud of her. I think about this a lot and try not to get emotional about it.”

He explained, “What she has taught me as a father is respect for other people and all people, and that’s what I want people to understand. Everything that is about her is about loving everybody, and she has taught me that.”

Chappell's A Very Carpool Karaoke Christmas appearance comes at the end of a record-breaking year for the star. She earned Grammy nominations in major categories like Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best New Artist, and opened up about the recognition with Zane during their carpool.

“It's an honor to be nominated with some of the other artists... I don't have a speech yet, but you know me. I'm going to say something controversial. Why not?” she quipped to the Apple Music host before sharing what the nods mean to her.

She added, “It’s like, ‘Oh, my God!’ How amazing is it that a gay artist wrote a gay song that went No. 1 with a gay writer who did not grow up in the industry, did not have an in, has been busting her ass for, like, a decade? That’s, like, honorable to me!”
