“We’ve been very lucky with each of these movies to have gathered some of my favorite actors on the planet,” said Johnson.
The standalone sequel follows 2019’s “Knives Out” and 2022’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”
Lionsgate distributed 2019 hit “Knives Out,” which made $312 million worldwide and earned Johnson an Oscar nomination for its screenplay. The movie surrounded the death of a crime novelist and his family, and featured a cast that included Chris Evans, Ana de Armas and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Netflix then inked a deal with Johnson for two additional “Knives Out” mysteries, the first was 2022’s “Glass Onion,” set on a tech billionaires private island with suspects played by the likes of Edward Norton, Janelle Monae and Kathryn Hahn.
That movie included a one-week theatrical release, which Craig hopes will be more expansive for “Wake Up Dead Man.” In a Variety interview for its “Queer” cover story, Craig said, “Hopefully, Netflix will push it out a bit, and people will get to see it. The people I speak to — the fans, I suppose — all they want to do is take their families and go see it at the cinemas. That’s all they want to do. Hopefully we can give them that experience.”
