‘Waitress: The Musical’ Coming To Max In February

Waitress: The Musical, a filmed version of the Tony-nominated Broadway hit, is set to stream on Max in the U.S. beginning on Valentine’s Day — Friday, February 14.

Marking the Broadway debut of singer-songwriter and actress Sara Bareilles, Waitress: The Musical is based on a film of the same name, written by the late Adrienne Shelly and starring Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion, which will also be available on the platform starting February 1.

The story follows Jenna Hunterson (Bareilles), a waitress and expert pie maker stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. When a baking contest in a nearby county offers her a chance at escape, Jenna fights to reclaim a long-forgotten part of herself. Through the support of her fellow waitresses and an unexpected romance, she begins to find the courage to take a long-abandoned dream off the shelf.

In addition to starring, Bareilles composed the music and lyrics, earning Tony and Grammy nominations for her work. Jessie Nelson adapted the musical for the stage. The film also stars Charity Angél Dawson, Caitlin Houlahan, Drew Gehling, Dakin Matthews, Eric Anderson, Joe Tippett and Christopher Fitzgerald.

Waitress: The Musical was directed by Brett Sullivan, with the musical being directed for the stage by Diane Paulus and adapted by Nelson. The film was produced by Michael Roiff, Barry & Fran Weissler, Bareilles, Nelson, and Paul Morphos in association with FilmNation Entertainment.

Also bound for Max, as announced earlier today, is A24’s romantic drama We Live in Time, starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, which streams exclusively there on Friday, February 7, debuting on HBO linear on the 8th at 8:00 p.m. ET.
