Longtime friend Chris Cortazzo, who the actress was with the last time she was photographed in public, dedicated a post to Doherty, sharing photos and videos throughout their friendship.

"There is so much I want to say about this woman… Her fighting spirit, strength and courage but also her vulnerability, sensitivity and depth," he began. "Frankly it’s too much for me to process right now, but I will share more when the time is right. For now I’m just grateful that I was able to spend some time with her recently and reminisce on her pod. And of course am grateful for all the years we spent together. All the good and all the bad. And I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. A big piece of my heart belongs to you forever Shannen. I know you know that ❤️"

They were engaged from 1995 until 1998 when they went their separate ways, but have remained friends — in April, Weiss was on a two-part episode of Let's Be Clear to discuss his love story with Doherty.

Those who've acted alongside Doherty also shared statements of their own on social media.

Eric West, who worked with the late star on 2021's Fortress, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that his "heart is broken."

"It was a pleasure to meet Shannen Doherty while filming our movie Fortess a little over 2 years ago," the actor wrote. "She was full of warm energy and positive vibes. So young. So talented. May she rest well."

FOX Entertainment also released a statement remembering Doherty, who they called "television royalty."

"All of us at FOX mourn the loss of our friend Shannen Doherty and grieve alongside her family, friends and fans. We are grateful for Shannen’s undeniable talent and light, especially through her unforgettable, groundbreaking role in Beverly Hills, 90210, the iconic series that cemented her place among television royalty and helped define the bold, provocative identity FOX became known for," it read. "While Shannen was far too young to leave us, over her decades-long career, she built a legacy that will be remembered and celebrated forever."

Doherty's death follows years of the actress living with cancer. In 2023, she spoke with PEOPLE about her breast cancer, which had then spread to her bones.

On her Instagram Story, Munn — who discussed her own breast cancer diagnosis with PEOPLE earlier this year — wrote that she was "absolutely heartbroken" over Doherty's death.

"When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer I remember how she bravely let the world into her journey and reached out to her," Munn wrote. "We became instant friends — which I honestly couldn't comprehend at times because watching her on 90210 was everything to me when I was 10."

The actress then detailed how the pair "bonded through a shared battle and a desire to help other women."

"Looking back on the last text she sent me just a couple months ago, she asked how I was doing and if she could do anything for me," Munn wrote. "True to form, Shannen was offering her support even though she was in the final stage of fighting this horrific disease... Cancer is really f------ scary and Shannen faced it with such dignity, strength and grace."

"I'm sending all of my love to her mother who was her best friend, hero and champion every step of the way," she added. "Fly so high, my friend."

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the creator of Riverdale, on which Doherty appeared in to honor late actor and close friend Luke Perry in 2019, shared a few words about her on Instagram.

"RIP Shannen Doherty," he wrote. "Grew up watching you in so many iconic, meaningful movies and shows. Was beyond honored and humbled and grateful that you were a part of our most special episode of #Riverdale ever. Thank you forever.💔😰💔😰🚀"

Dave Coulier, who wrote on X that he met Doherty during the "Full House days," shared in his tribute that the late actress "was lovely and had a beautiful smile." He paired his message with an image of Doherty in a Stand Up to Cancer T-shirt, as he reflected on other losses in his life.

"Today, I’ll also think about the women in my life who all succumbed to cancer — my mom, my sister, Sharon and my niece, Shannon, who all were so strong and so beautiful. #RIPShannenDoherty #RIP," Coulier wrote.

Marcia Cross wrote in a post on X that Doherty "lived out her cancer battle publicly and with such courage," adding, "I will miss her fierce spirit. ♥️ "

Daniel Waters, a screenwriter on Heathers, shared a photo on X of a painting of the actress which he said he wakes up to "every morning."

"RIP Shannen. She didn't know our film was a comedy."

Musician Butch Walker shared a lengthy tribute to his neighbor and close friend, calling Doherty "the most real person" on Instagram.

"I can't believe you're gone. You were so resilient and strong and graceful with your illness. There would be times we would forget you were sick with stage 4 because you just carried yourself with that trademark confidence and attitude, that it made it hard to imagine that it would take you from us all one day."

Yvette Nicole Brown called it "such sad news" in a post on X as she wrote, "I was hoping she would beat the disease again. 💔."

Filmmaker Don Bluth, known for his work on The Land Before Time and All Dogs Go to Heaven, also remembered Doherty in a touching post on X. Bluth previously worked with the actress when she voiced character Teresa Brisby in his 1982 animated film The Secret of NIMH, which according to IMDB, marked Doherty's very first film role.

Alongside a recent photo of the pair, Bluth's official X account shared an image of the two sitting down together in the '80s, when she was a child actress.

"Rest in Peace Shannen. You were such an amazing woman. I am so glad we met once again," Bluth's statement read. "My heart is heavy today, the world is in chaos, but you are safe at home with the angels. I love you."

Other filmmakers paid tribute to the star over the weekend, including Kevin Smith, who directed Doherty in his 1995 hit Mallrats. Alongside a few wholesome images of the pair hanging out over the years, and a handful of '90s throwbacks, Smith began his Instagram post by writing that "long before any other pop culture figure 'broke the internet' [Doherty] singlehandedly shattered it in the early 90s."

"This is an incredible accomplishment considering the internet as we know it didn’t even exist yet," Smith, 53, wrote. "I (and the rest of the known universe) used to watch 'the girl from #heathers' every week on @beverlyhills90210. I usually did so while jockeying the register at @quickstopgroceries - so it was ironic that the film I’d eventually make there would lead to #shannendoherty."

Smith then shared the story of how Doherty was cast in Mallrats, before calling her a "true talent" who eventually became his "good" friend. "...But lest anyone forget, she was the only reason Mallrats got green-lit in 1995. That’s because Shannen was one of the most famous people on the planet — and the fact that she picked Mallrats as her first follow-up to 90210 *made* that movie happen," he wrote. "I cherish the memories of Shannen walking her German Shepherd around the @edenprairiecenter every morning, or whenever she’d gossip and giggle between takes."

"At the junket for Rats, we established a ritual we kept up for years, where she wrote 'dick' over my half of our @filmthreat cover while I wrote 'bitch' over her pic. But while Shannen was no shrinking violet and she gave as good as she got (particularly to the paparazzi), she was never anything but sweet to me," he added.

The filmmaker then reflected on his appearance on her Let's Be Clear podcast in December, when he told her that he "felt like the girl I used to watch on TV at Quick Stop was there to welcome me when I got into show business."

"F---… She’s died way too soon. I already miss you, Do-Do," Smith wrote. "Thank you for going to the Mall with me — and for thirty years of friendship. My Canadian pal was right: you are (and always will be) an American icon."
