'The View's Joy Behar Sends a Direct Message to Democrats: 'Get Off Your Butts!'

After a week of absences, Joy Behar returned to her post at The View on Tuesday, Feb. 11—and she had a fiery political message to share.

While discussing how Democrats should change their strategy in response to Donald Trump's recent actions, Behar made an unexpected suggestion.

"You need a candidate who's like Trump on the left, somebody who speaks the vernacular," the 82-year-old host said, adding, "He comes out there, he might as well say 'Oh, I got a hemorrhoid today," and people like it! Because it's real."

Behar went on to recall Trump's relationship with the media before he was elected president, referencing the period of time when Barbara Walters was still on The View.

"Remember when Trump used to call in constantly?" Behar continued. "He was on this show, Barbara interviewed him, he was calling Morning Joe all the time—that is what they should be doing. Every time, they should be ambushing the airwaves. Democrats, get off your butts and start doing it."

Behar was missing from The View for several days this month, with Whoopi Goldberg explaining the reason why during the Feb. 6 broadcast.

"Joy is not here," Goldberg said. "We wish her a happy opening night. It’s tonight," she continued, referencing Behar's new off-Broadway show My First Ex-Husband, which opened at Mac-Haydn Theater in New York last week. Behar stars alongside Susie Essman, Tovah Feldshuh, and Adrienne C. Moore in the comedy.
