Tyler Hynes Says Hallmark's The “Groomsmen ”Trilogy 'Feels Like “Sex and the City” for Dudes' (Exclusive)

An upcoming Hallmark trilogy will give fans all the feels like another beloved comfort watch.
During PEOPLE + Hallmark's countdown to Sexiest Man Alive event on Thursday, Oct. 3, Tyler Hynes told Executive Editor of TV and Events Breanne L. Heldman that the Groomsmen movie trilogy is reminiscent of the beloved series, Sex and City.
When asked about what it was like working on a "gay love story that's a friends-to-lovers story on Hallmark," Hynes, 38, shared, "It's not Sex in the City, but it kind of feels like Sex and City for dudes, which I realized watching Sex and the City when I was in Europe and I was going, 'Oh, we're making that.'"
The Three Wise Men and a Baby actor also reflected on how the importance of friendship in the upcoming trilogy, which was also a main theme of the hit HBO series. He explained, "It distills that dynamic of our elected family, which so much of us experience now being away from our family, probably living in New York, or family's back home, wherever."
"Your friends become your family. They become the people who hold you up through all of these moments in our lives," he continued. "It captures that feeling while doing so, telling a very lovely, diverse group of stories with a really diverse cast and doing it earnestly without feeling like there was an agenda," he aded of the upcoming trilogy.
Hynes stars in The Groomsmen movies alongside Jonathan Bennett and B.J. Britt.
The trilogy will chronicle "the lives and romantic relationships of three best friends of different backgrounds, cultures and sexual orientations — Pete (Britt), a kind-hearted pediatrician with a penchant for planning; Danny (Bennett), an ex-jock with a heart of gold; and Jackson (Hynes), the stylish and charming social media agent — as they each find love and wedding bliss in picturesque locations Greece, Italy and Bulgaria," according to an official synposis.
Bennett, 43, told PEOPLE at San Diego Com-Con in July that the Groomsmen trilogy is "the first time we've had a gay wedding on Hallmark as the lead storyline."
"Playing the character of Danny in The Groomsmen — not only are we telling a story of friendship and love, but...telling a story about a wedding," the Mean Girls actor explained.
"That is the first time we've had a gay wedding on Hallmark as the lead storyline," he added. "And that's a huge move for the gay community so they can see themselves represented in these stories."

The Groomsmen movies will premiere in October, with The Groomsmen: First Look on Oct. 17, The Groomsmen: Second Chances on Oct. 24 and The Groomsmen: The Last Dance on Oct. 31 — all on Hallmark+.
