Yahoo Lifestyle Tyla's yellow mini dress at the 2024 VMAs is so shredded it flashes her knickers
Ever since Tyla hit the 2024 Met Gala in a dress made of literal sand our expectations have been 📈 when it comes to her red carpet looks. Well, we're pleased to report she definitely delivered at the 2024 MTV VMAs, showing up in a yellow mini dress by Area. The neon bright design was made of hundreds of thing fabric strips laid across her body to create a shredded effect before cascading into a tasselled train.
She accessorised with a turquoise choker cuff necklace that coordinated with her teal knickers that could be glimpsed through the gaps in the fabric of her dress. Red heeled strappy sandals provided another colour pop to the eye-catching ensemble.

Tyla was nominated for a handful of awards at this year's VMAs including Best New Artist (alongside Benson Boone, Chappell Roan, Gracie Abrams, Shaboozey and Teddy Swims), Best R&B for “Water” and Best Afrobeats also for “Water,” with the artist successfully scooping the prize for the latter.
Tyla actually told Cosmopolitan US the story behind “Water,” saying she never expected it to become so huge. “I recorded it in a bedroom,” she said. "I never thought, ‘This song is going to blow up.’ And then I started performing it and seeing everyone singing every word. And I knew it was something bigger than what we thought. People from everywhere are listening to it and dancing to it, no matter their age. There’s babies, there’s old people. I just love that it’s an African sound that is so universal.”
