Chris Pratt “Devastated” At News Of Stunt Double Tony McFarr’s Death
McFarr’s mother Donna told TMZ that the exact circumstances of his death are unknown but that his passing was unexpected.
The Orange County Medical Examiner has confirmed to Deadline that an exam has taken place and a cause/manner of death is pending toxicology results. His date of passing is listed as May 13, when he was found unresponsive.
Pratt reacted to McFarr’s death on his Instagram Stories, saying he was “devastated to hear about the loss of my friend and former stunt double,” adding “We did several movies together. We golfed, drank whiskey, smoked cigars, and spent endless hours on set. I’ll never forget his toughness.”
Born Antonio Gerard McFarr on October 12, 1976, the stunt performer launched his career as an uncredited stunt double for Geoff Stults on Bones in 2011. Numerous credits would follow, including Rock of Ages, Teen Wolf, The Glades, Burn Notice and, in 2014, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.
In 2015, McFarr doubled for Pratt in Jurassic World, beginning a collaboration and friendship that would continue though the Jurassic sequels and Passengers. The duo’s physical resemblance made for considerable social media mentions.
McFarr reportedly suffered a fall during the filming of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017. He had a half-dozen small acting roles in episodes of One Tree Hill, Burn Notice, Army Wives and MacGyver.
Since 2013, McFarr has been the owner of Reel Bowls restaurant near Orlando. According to his Linkedin page, he owned a total of three restaurants in that career, including an eatery called The Fit Kitchen.
According to TMZ, he is survived by a daughter, his parents and a sister. Services are pending.
